The placement we are considering for fall is definitely opening, and they now think they have located a space- huzzah!

Personally, I think this whole mess is totally ridiculous and totally avoidable. This is a child who has been in this system for eight years now, there is not excuse for not having the trained folks in place and the working model set up. We've had a week for dust to settle, this week I am cornering our case manager and making sure Joey's academics are being addressed. Inclusion classrooms are not always. I get that self contained is a step up in restrictiveness. But it honestly doesn't sound like this school is - or is able to - meet Joey's needs, both academically and purely physically, safety-wise. I fear you will find the same or worse in a regular inclusive middle school. If I was an adminstrator, I would feel very uncertain about admitting a child with Joey's history.

It may be time to consider self contained. I am so sorry if this is offensive and I am completely aware that I don't know you or Joey - anything I know is based on your writing, which is alarming as is. I don't understand how Joey's school is allowing him to continue there when they clearly cannot safely meet his needs. Based on your posts, they are negligent. Even if you have the best lawyer in the world, it sounds like they will not be able to meet his needs.

Any news on the private school? or a lawyer who can help you assist with getting funding for it? I would urge you to follow up with those and/or looking into other alternatives. Bull.... shhhhhiiiittt.

My Russ is in self-contained. He can read, spell and take dictation off the computer - writes you-tube videos and adverts that interest him into WwS - better than most kids in Gr 6. What does his teacher do.... push that skill because his expressive language abilities are horrible. Yes, she's pushing expressive language too but he gets "just b/c" writing time and "you need to write on this topic" writing time. So if he can write, and knows he can write "whatever", we have a better idea of what he knows and what's in his head.

Thing is, the rest of the kids are in that class because they can't read... at all. So, he teaches them to read, they teach him to talk. Everyone benefits.

Let's not get into my problem right now of where he's going for 7/8 b/c that's a whole other discussion and not a pretty one. But for the last 3 years, this is what she's done. She and the 2 EA's teach 10 children. Maybe it isn't perfect... but she tries.

That's just a cop-out. They can push his Math, and teach him language. They don't want to.farmwifetwohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02680758336779501712noreply@blogger.com
