Wordless Wednesday: Mommy, Take My Picture!

Your boys are adorable. I wonder if Joey is on some kind of medication? He's much rounder than his brother. I'm not trying to be mean, it's just noticeable in the pictures you post. Weight can be an issue with children on the spectrum, especially if food has been used as a reward. Again, this wasn't meant as a criticism. If he's happy and you're happy and he's not getting teased that's great.

No, he is on no medication. We are having him checked for diabetes (runs in the family and weight gain is an early sign) and some other possible metabolism issues that run in our family.

The problem actually started because the school wanted him to buy the school food to practice social skills and things, and we were unaware of the calories he was consuming. Most people are unaware that between breakfast and lunch, the school packs 1400-1600 calories into kids- before you even send a snack or feed them dinner! (Most school kids only need 1200-1400 calories per day!) I now pack everything.

Additionally, Andy's slimness is probably related to his ADHD (constant motion!) and eating habits- he doesn't like to eat, and doesn't like things like bread and pasta.
