As expected, about 4 o'clock this morning, Joey crept into our bed. He does this most nights, and then I end up in the recliner for the remainder of the night, because we only have a queen-size bed. We've tried a couple of times to break this nightly habit, but all such campaigns have only resulted in less sleep and still waking up with a boy in the bed.
Last night, I felt that familiar depression of a boy climbed up onto the bed, crawling across, and settling between me and JoeyAndyDad. He snuggled in, then draped his arm over me, and gave me a little squeeze.
And very, very quietly, I heard him say:
"Squishy squishy squishy."
These are the rewards of being a mom.

I stumbled upon your blog, and read about 6 or 7 entries. I have a Joey as well (age 4.5) who also has autism, and is a complete and utter joy. I just loved the description of "squishy squishy squishy" - I can so picture it - and it's those moments that just warm you isn't it. My Joey is still in the early language phase - highly echolalic, but I still get a little smile every morning when he pads into my rooms and says "Good morning; have a good sleep?" - Something I used to say to him when he was 2 and 3.
Love it. It sounds like Joey is giving you all kinds of love these days.
Oh that is so cute!!! TC always tells me, "Don't you want to hold me and lay with me?"
What a little love bug!
Ooo yes. I know exactly what you mean. I have one experiencing another 'nocturnal' phase. It recurs every 3 to four months when we have 4 or 5 days of it. I have no idea what sets it off. I have no idea why it goes away and zippo brain power to figure it out no surprisingly enough.
Cheers
